Christians?

Earlier I had a query which involved Christians refuting edegonous retrovirus, which is real good evidence for evolution. In return, I had a plethora of people having NO clue what I was talking about. (We did not come from monkey's, we came from common ancestors). And not to sound mean, but every one of them sounded highly unintelligent. So my new question is, how many Christians have read %26amp; studied anything to disprove their beliefs? If you spent 100+ hours reading %26amp; studying "the word of God" how many hours have you spent reading people with other philisophical views? I know my mom would not allow me to read anything that can disprove God, but why? How come you cannot question God's existence? Because this is what I did, %26amp; realzed that God does not exist. Most people are bias towards there belief, because they have no other knowledge. I know ealrier NOBODY had ANY knowledge on evolution, but yet they try %26amp; discredit it. How can you discredit ANYTHING, if you have ZERO knowledge of?|||i took all the science classes i could in high school, many of them advanced bio classes, and i studied evolution. but the more science i study, the more anything i study, in fact, and i've been in college for four years, the more evidence i find that God does exist. science and religion shouldn't be at odds, because God created science; he created all of the systems that scientists study. i understand and have studied the common ancestor theory and of course i realize that darwin never claimed we come from monkeys, but i believe that humans are created in the image of God. yes, we've found skeletal remains that resemble but are not human, and someday, we'll know what part of God's plan those creatures played. i'm content not knowing for now.|||You cannot present a rational and informed argument against something you haven't researched. This is why, as a Christian, I am constantly reading non-Christian texts, both religious and secular. I have spent not hours, but years, studying religious and philosophical perspectives outside of my own belief system. As for the theory of evolution, my church doesn't have a problem with it. I grew up attending religious schools, and we were taught evolution, not Creationism.|||I have read alot of different philisophical views and did study them but none of them made sense that is why I am glad I did choose God and stayed with him, because without him I knew I would go to (HADES) Hell whichever people prefer.

Hope this answered your question|||You can believe in evolution and still be a Christian. When will people realize you can't prove either side with 100% certainty. I have studied many perspectives on all sides for over 25 years. No one will ever have 100% proof either way.|||Do we have less chromosomes or more chromosomes than our common ancestors?|||Evolution is all a lie 100% truth.

God loves you...God bless|||Certainly you could qestion God's existence in my house, but I defy you to find anything that can "disprove" God, any more than you can find anything to "prove" Him. People have been trying to do both since the first two people on the face of the earth bumped into each other in a cold, dark cave and lit their first fire.

Of course we can question God's existence. And of course there's good evidence for evolution. There's also no reason why both theories can't peacefully coexist. Or not. It isn't because people don't know anything that you aren't getting intelligent responses, but because your query imposes the restriction that only one of the two possibilities can be the truth. And it just ain't so!|||"real good evidence"

Not to sound mean either, but you sound highly unintelligent yourself. Not to sound mean or anything.

And why would I WANT to thoroughly study any philisophical views that counter the Bible when i know that the Word of God is true? I know it and I have no reason to question it because I see the truth in it. I don't need to question God's existence because I know Him - I have a relationship with Jesus. He's not some far off enigma that I merely speak of. He is with me and I know He has a hand in my life without question.

I lived 23 years of my life without any faith in anything beside the belief that there probably was a God. I have a B.S. from the University of Michigan, so I took my fair share of bio, chem, physics, and geology courses at all levels. So I do have a background in agnostic beliefs while being emersed in a liberal college that pushed evolution.

I spent the next 11 getting to know God and everyday I know more about Him.

And why the debate over evolution anyway. WHY do you care so much what others believe? How does it really affect YOUR life? It's none of your bees wax, is it? I think it's because you and your evolution pushing friends hate the idea that there's possibly a God out there that might actually have rules for how you should be living your life.|||I believe what you say is true, but it goes either way. Many who are quick to disprove God haven't really studied on the Bible. I don't mean just reading it once and saying "Ok I'm done. I'm ready to disprove." I mean actually studying it: culture, grammar, etc. Studying is one thing but reading is another.

The same goes for Christians who don't bother to research science. It makes them look a bit dumb to discredit something if they've never researched it, like you said. And vice versa for the non-believers. Someone who believes a certain thing usually leans toward defending their belief, so it's typical that a non-believer and believer are quick to defend their belief, sometimes without thinking and without knowledge. Interesting question. =)|||It would take considerably more than 100 hours to get the kind of grounding in microbiology to make sense of "endogenous retrovirus" and whatever else you're talking about. I am always allowed to question God's existence, and I do from time to time. My conclusion is that I'm happier with God, whether He's real or not. (And yes, I really do believe that God is real.) Please don't make stupid statements like "Most people are bias toward there belief..." Good heavens - two misspellings in less than one sentence and a great big OPINION, not fact. Do YOU actually understand this "endogenous retrovirus"? Or are you just regurgitating some anti-christian site put forward? Finally, I don't try to discredit Evolution; I simply haven't accepted it. What I do understand of it, which I'll admit is somewhat limited, isn't fully convincing. Until I DO understand what's being put forward, I'll keep my acceptance to myself. Does that make sense to you?|||To be honest I read your original question and had to scratch my head on it. That stuff is pretty far beyond my current level of understanding.

Then I took "edegonous retrovirus" (or whatever the three words you used were), googled them, and found a few discussion strings. Unfortunately there wasn't anything from a Christian perspective (stop laughing), so I took a look at one of the Creationism/Evolution argument threads and read the evolutionary side.

I was very curious to say the least. Of course my first thought was the similarities COULD indicate intelligent design since God made all of creation out of the same stuff, (IMHO). Some others used that argument and the most common response was "considering all these inconsistencies, I'd say it's UNINTELLIGENT design."

So I had to readily admit the argument has me thinking and I'm pondering whether or not this evidence is proof enough, etc.

Not being able to fully comprehend the discussion, I'll have to rely on other resources to weigh both sides, but I'd love to hear from some of those Christian biologists (and other science based intellectuals) on their views on the subject...

ON the other hand, I don't think you can accuse all of those who responded to your question as having ZERO knowledge on evolution, even for no other reason than most of us were taught the basics of the theory in school...

However as I also read some of the responses, I can see where your frustration comes from...

Best I can say for now is "VERY interesting." I'm open to doing more research on the subject.

If you're someone who does "run in those circles" (meaning if you can understand that stuff), I'd be interested in learning what you think about this:

I was going to do more research on it myself but had to get back to work... :)

So if it's worth anything, you were able to reach at least ONE person with your argument. I'm not ready to throw in the towel of course, it will take a lot more than this, but I'm not going to just dismiss it as irrelevant either...

PS - I just previewed what I wrote, sorry for the wordiness, I'm tired and not articulating too clearly right now...
