I have bad credit already, so Im going for one of the cards especially made for bad credit. I don't know if the type of card makes a difference in how much it would go up...|||I always get thumbs down for this statement but
IF it is a Cap One account you will not see a great benefit like staying below a certain point of your credit limit because on their starter accounts they do report your credit limit so you always look maxxed out and that hurts your credit. So if that is the card NEVER carry a balance over to a new month.|||Credit scores don't work that way. Getting a credit card won't improve your score. You have to use that new account for at least 6 months before it will even count in your FICO score. Best way to handle the new credit card is to use it for small purchases and pay the balance in full every month. This will build good payment history and avoid interest.
You will need at least 24 months of consistent, on time payment history to see much improvement in your score. It takes years to overcome bad credit.|||Obtaining a card does not raise your score, in fact opening credit while already having bad credit is going to lower it. Pay routinely, pay more than minimum, and once you have your debts in order, routinely use and pay off debts in order to help increase it. Only time and good use will increase score.|||it won't go up at all initially - it will probably go down - just like applying for credit makes it go down|||Getting one doesn't affect it much. Paying on time does.
